it's about the reproduction of the beer industry. At least in the U.S., first you had very local production systems. Then the mass produced beers, which not only created a mass market and branding system, but de-localized and homogenized the flavor. Now, you have the rise of craft beer production, although it can be localized, it is also somewhat of a national market and distribution system (Sam Adams) that can put local companies at a scale disadvantage. At the same time this focus on quality has led to an interest in quality beers (types) from other countries, i.e., Belgian beers, etc.

I own but haven't read _Consuming Geographies_. I don't know if this kind of stuff is covered there.

Alas, I haven't been to South America, so I don't know if this kind of re-re-production of this particular industry is likely to happen there.

an erratum perhaps? anyway, we have activities in our university supported by the local UNESCO club that don't really need to be press released. Or maybe, the sites you visited aren't updated yet?

I just wish that part of the reason people drink the "brands" is because the famous beer labels in their country have proven that they are "good" beer.

If there are people in this world who really know what traveling is, of course these are the travelers themselves and definitely not the tourism critics.

Only five thousand tourists per day are allowed at Ilha do Mel? Availing of boat tickets will definitely become even more difficult.

[...] Those who have read in this blog the entries about Ilha do Mel, and are planning to go there, better be aware that Parana state authorities are strictly applying the 5 thousand tourists per day limit. Therefore, a few issues are coming up, and in some cases you can’t get boat tickets to get to the island unless a certain number of spaces are available. [...]

Hola,

I just discovered your website and am intrigued! This fall, I am moving to Argentina for a year, and then plan to attend Graduate School for Inter-cultural Communications in NYC. In a previous life as a student, a couple of incarnations ago, I wrote my thesis on tourism and its interplay with religious rituals. I'm also starting an internet company based on web based services and promotional tools for music venues. You seem to have a handful of parallel interests! I would love to be in touch with you as I work out my plan for studies and travel in Argentina. I currently live in Savannah, GA and own a coffee shop and community venue. Please feel free to email me a response. Thanks!
