Buenos Aires, City of Faded Elegance
Jorge
Some weeks ago, I had talked in my spanish blog about El Sur, a blog in english dedicated to cover the topic of tourism in Latin America. And now I just found out that for a couple of months now the have been publishing a blog dedicated to the city I live in, called Buenos Aires, City of Faded Elegance. The blog is also in english, by the way. There’s an interesting analysis of a note published by a U.S. media about the insecurity in Buenos Aires. It’s noticeable: the note reproduces the typical topic of “third world insecure city”, when despite its problems, Buenos Aires is much safer than other cities in the region -and, by the way, a lot safer than some U.S. cities. Some time ago, Walter wrote in HTML Life (spanish) about how bad porteƱos (Buenos Aires natives) sold their city image; instead of remarking the interesting issues, they keep going on about the city’s insecurity and things like that. Barry, from Buenos Aires, City of Faded Elegance, as well as Walter, are not argentineans, and despite that they remark the excessive reference to the matter of security. We should take note.
Among the links on Buenos Aires, City of Faded Elegance, its worth to pay a visit to Expat Argentina, a blog of a U.S. citizen living in Buenos Aires and telling us all about it (thanks to Fernando for the tip).
